OUR PROFESSOR.
Marcelo Meleiro is a highly accomplished Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt, awarded in 2003 by the legendary André Pederneiras, founder of the world-renowned Nova União fight team. With over two decades of experience, Marcelo has been instrumental in shaping and preparing elite fighters for competition, both as a coach and sparring partner. His journey in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu began even before Nova União’s inception in 1995, marking him as one of the most dedicated and skilled practitioners in the field.
Marcelo’s technical knowledge is unparalleled, honed through years of rigorous training and consistent devotion to the art. His passion for teaching and his ability to connect with students on a deeper level make him a standout instructor.

“My name is André Pederneiras, founder of the Nova União professional Mixed Martial Arts and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu fight team, as well as president of the South America division of the Shooto Mixed Martial Arts events organization. I have also competed as a professional mixed martial arts and Jiu-Jitsu fighter at the highest level during the 1990s. As head coach and founder of Nova União, I am proud to say that we have produced some of the world’s greatest Mixed Martial Arts and Jiu-Jitsu fighters, who compete and win titles in the most prestigious championships globally, including the UFC, WEC, and IF in the United States, K-1 and Shooto in Japan, and Cage Rage in England. Our academy is headquartered at the UPPER Academy in Flamengo, Rio de Janeiro, but we have a global presence with academies in Japan, Australia, England, Canada, and the United States. Our community is united by shared values and a commitment to excellence. Marcelo Meleiro has been a vital part of this journey since the beginning. He was awarded his black belt by me in 2003 and has flourished as both a trainer and practitioner. Marcelo has played a fundamental role in preparing fighters for competition, both as a coach and sparring partner. Despite his academic commitments—earning both University and Master’s degrees—Marcelo always prioritized training and supporting his teammates, all while competing in Jiu-Jitsu and submission wrestling. His journey in Jiu-Jitsu began with me before the inception of Nova União in 1995, and he has consistently demonstrated his dedication to the art. Marcelo’s technical knowledge is exceptional, and his natural talent for teaching, combined with years of coaching experience, makes him a standout Jiu-Jitsu instructor.”

KIDS CLASS
Our kids’ classes emphasize conditioning, technical drills, and live rolling. Mental coaching is also a key component, where the professor teaches values such as discipline, respect, and good habits. At 305 Grappling, we believe our kids’ program is the foundation of our academy. Our mission is to build confident, disciplined individuals who will succeed both on and off the mats.
FUNDAMENTALS
Our fundamentals class follows a structured approach, starting with a warm-up, followed by technique drills, and ending with specific rolls to build a solid foundation in Gi grappling.
ADVANCED CLASS
Intermediate/Advanced Classes Ready to take your grappling skills to the next level? Our Intermediate / Advanced classes offer challenging BJJ training for experienced practitioners.
